school’s
philosophy defines its identity. At Fort Lauderdale Preparatory School
and its companion Teaching and Learning Center, we have a commitment to
excellence in developmental education and a partnership between the
family and the school. Our program looks at each child as a unique
individual and tailors activities and learning experiences to fit his or
her developmental needs. We provide a classroom with a learning centered
approach.
We recognize and welcome the uniqueness of each student and value the
resulting diversity. Through the development of academic, artistic,
physical, and social skills, every student's growth is encouraged and
supported. Personal integrity, responsibility, and social concern for
others, along with academic achievement, are our fundamental principles.
Our teachers act as learning facilitators and mentors. They are trained
to create appropriate learning situations that stimulate a child’s
inquiring mind.
At FLP we view each student as an individual on the road to discovering
his or her own unique potential. Using caring and concern, we encourage
our students to develop independence and to gain confidence by
developing his or her personal interests, skills and abilities. By using
an "I will, I can" attitude we guide every child in reaching their
maximum potential. |
In today's fast paced and highly competitive world the role of
formalized education has evolved to provide a two-fold purpose. One
purpose is to encourage students to identify and develop the skills
necessary to earn a living. The second is to aid students in seeking and
shaping their places in society. FLP strives to provide each student
with knowledge about the world and aid each one in acquiring the
necessary skills to participate in the world in an independent and
productive manner. At FLP our staff is committed to reaching these
goals. With encouragement, each member of our student society is aided
in learning the social skills and manners appropriate for seeking and
maintaining productive and responsible conduct in our real world
society. At FLP we see ourselves and others as active, vital, working
members of our school society, a microcosm of the real world.
FLP's smaller, more intimate environment provides many advantages. Our
highly experienced, caring staff, along with our atmosphere of
cooperative learning and self-direction, combined with parental support
provides the framework for our team approach towards encouraging and
promoting an optimal environment in which our children may grow.
