ur
Lower School is comprised of mixed-age groupings.
We do this for several
reasons:
Current research of peer tutoring and cooperative learning clearly
supports that interactive learning between younger and older children
(novices and experts) benefit all individuals both academically and
socially.
Mixed age grouping is placing children who are at least one year apart
into the same instructional groups. This practice resembles typical
family and neighborhood groupings which formerly provided much of
children’s early education and socialization experiences. Mixed-age
grouping provides a flexible alternative to the historic rigid lock-step
curriculum with its traditional age group expectations.
We set goals for Lower School students on an individual basis. Learning
activities include cooperative learning and individual projects. Through
a variety of lessons, discussions, explanation and tests, students
demonstrate their progress. |
