College Counseling
Fort Lauderdale Preparatory School is committed to offer superior college counseling services. College searches begin in Grade 9. Special guidance workshops and classes are conducted throughout the year to prepare students for the PSAT and SAT exams. All juniors may take the PSAT exams to see if they qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PACT is given in Grade 10 and is used as a diagnostic tool. College Admissions Counselors visit the school to speak to Juniors and Seniors during the school year. All Juniors and Seniors are required to take college entrance exams. *No additional Fees Apply

I-20
Fort Lauderdale Prep School can issue I-20s, the document needed in order to apply for an F-1 Student Visa, for foreign students interested in coming to the United States to pursue an academic program. The student can stay in the United States for as long as he/she is enrolled in FLPS.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
For those international students, Fort Lauderdale Preparatory has a full ESOL program. This program is staffed by experienced teachers. We integrate our students into the regular curriculum as soon as possible. We include TOEFL instruction for all international high school students. It is an integral part of the program. We have had as many as 45 different countries represented in a school year. We welcome global diversity.

The objective of this program is to provide international students with the essential English language skills needed in an academic setting. This is done in both individual and small group sessions. The main instructional emphasis is on reading and speaking English. Additional instruction is also provided in formal grammar. The basic goal is to teach these students to communicate effectively. FLPS is qualified to issue I-20 student visas. Information is available upon request. * Additional Fees Apply

Supportive Services Program
Our Supportive Services program was designed to help students with learning disabilities, or those who have experienced past academic difficulties. The program is structured to teach students how to learn. The program is open to youngsters who are intelligent but need the benefit of specialized instruction to close the gap between intellectual potential and academic achievement. These students are taught to recognize their own learning styles, utilize effective study techniques, and how to process information. We use special teaching methods and a carefully modified mainstream curriculum. We believe that the same courses of information should be adapted so that the students are getting a broad education. Work in reading and listening skills are additionally provided. The program is designed to be rigorous and demanding but has a one-to-one tutorial ratio as a support system, with small classes, individually designed tutorial programs, and structured assignments. In keeping with these goals, we welcome those students who possess a serious desire to further their education. * Additional Fees Apply

Intensive Reading
Our intensive reading program is designed to assist students suffering from extreme reading disabilities. Students are given daily sessions of tutoring using the “Signal of Structure” reading program. Students practice word attack and word recognition skills using short, high content reading passages. The program also includes an emphasis on comprehension and fluency in reading. * Additional Fees Apply

Behavior Modification
Our Behavior Modification Program includes a plan to help students gain self-control. We use a behavior contract signed by the student, parents and an administrator.

Behavior Modification refers to using strategies to get a person to change a behavior. It means reinforcing good behavior and punishing bad behavior. It generally takes at least a full school year to accomplish this. Learning cannot occur unless there is at least a modicum of self-control. This program will enable the student to be able to be a member of the school community when the appropriate behavior is exhibited and removed from the community when necessary.* Additional Fees Apply
